A new year has begun, and it’s going to be bursting with creativity! We here at Pencils.com are always keeping our eyes out for artists whose work we can fall in love with. Fortunately, there is no shortage of creative talent in sight for 2014. The following are some rising stars that I will be following this year, and I hope you’ll fall in love with them as much as I have.
Artists to Follow in 2014:
Morgan Davidson is an Illustration major at Ringling College of Art and Design who creates colorful, whimsical drawings using only colored pencils. Her subjects are usually people, but with certain whimsical additions, and of course they are always bursting with vibrant color. Morgan told the Daily Mail, “It feels nice in a modern age that people still support and admire traditional artists when digital art is becoming the norm, especially amongst younger artists.” Speaking of younger artists, Morgan is only 21! We’ll be keeping an eye on her work in 2014, and for many years to come!
Born in Australia and based in New York, Jessica Newham aka Betty Who is one serious musical talent to watch in 2014. Her song “Somebody Loves You” is a catchy pop hit with just a pinch of 80s flavor. The lyrics are sweet without being sappy, and the beat insists that you get up and dance. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve listened to it on the way to work every day for a month. She is currently working on an album that will be released by RCA Records later this year, keep an eye on this fantastic new voice!
Alida Nugent writes The Frenemy blog, and has also written a book called Don’t Worry, It Gets Worse. Like most of us in Generation Great Expectations, Not So Great Reality, Alida is struggling to figure out life after college, how to make doing what she loves a viable career, and of course those pesky romantic relationships. She is the everywoman, but she is also the everypostgrad, a little lost and finding her way one humorous, heartwarming, cringe-worthy, thought-provoking blog post at a time.
If you spend any time on YouTube, you probably already know about Jimmy Tatro. He makes hilarious short videos on his channel, Life According to Jimmy, on topics like awkward social interactions, relationships, and pop culture references. Last year, Jimmy made his silver screen debut in Grown Ups 2, and this year he is set to appear in 22 Jump Street. Keep an eye on this comic genius, because he’s got a lot more to give his fans in 2014.
