We recently received a new shipment of Musgrave Hermitage 525 Red & Blue Combo Pencils and learned that there had been some subtle changes to the pencil.

Here are a few of the changes that we noticed:
Pencil Color
MusgraveHermitage2In the photo above, the new pencil is shown above. The new 525 paint is a little lighter than the previous paint.

Wax Core Size

MusgraveHermitage3

The photo shows the new pencil to the left. As you can see, the wax on the new pencil (left) is a lot thicker than the previous model.

Wax Color

Musgrave-2 MusgraveThe wax color for both colors seems to have also gone through a slight change. The new 525 pencils (shown below in both images) have a slightly lighter but more vibrant wax color.

What do you think of the new change? Tell us in the comments!

Any word from them on why? It looks like the wood has been changed as well.

As an editor I use these quite often. Looking forward to ordering some of the new ones.

Hi James! It was a change resulting from customer feedback. A lot of complaints on broken wax cores, and increasing the wax size should help prevent that.

It is a bit different, it seems. It may be softer to help prevent cracking. The resulting marks from some test coloring show that the color is brighter and more vibrant.

Good call, Luke! I thought it was there when I posted it, but I guess it wasn’t. It’s there now. Thanks for the feedback.

Also, with regards to the imprint text, I just grabbed a pack of them and noticed the text is not consistent with the paint lines between the red/blue, and some do overlap into the red from the blue side, as can be seen in the product photo.
