A special favorite is the Palomino-KUM Long Point sharpener specially designed to work with the California Republic Palomino pencil. It first sharpens the wood then through 2nd hole in the sharpener sharpens only the graphitei point to a fine long precision point.

KUM brass and magnesium allow wedge sharpeners come in one or two hole varieties to be used with standard and oversize pencils.

KUM® carefully mills its metal pencil sharpeners from light magnesium alloy or brass to achieve perfect pencil and blade positioning. The screw-mounted blades are held absolutely immovable, do not loosen, and the pencil does not wobble while turning.

The high-carbon steel cutting blade features Dynamic Torsion Action®. DTA handles the difficult dual task of cutting hard graphite while shaping soft wood — remaining rigid when required and flexing when needed. The blades are protected against rust by careful polishing, eco-friendly ultrasonic cleaning, and by a micro-thin oil coating. They are long-lasting and very sharp. Spare blades are available.

KUM® friction-reducing technology, employed in both the cutting blade and housing, assures an efficient and pleasant pencil-sharpening experience without chattering, gouging, sticking, breaking or excessive waste. KUM® plastic sharpener containers and plastic inner sharpeners are manufactured with virgin granulate to prevent cracking.

High-precision injection molding assures that the screw-mounted blade is precisely positioned, does not loosen, and that the pencil does not wobble while turning. KUM® plastic sharpeners are manufactured with virgin granulate to prevent cracking.

Dynamic Torsion Action® keeps the high-carbon steel blade under positive tension during the sharpening process. The blade adjusts dynamically to the different forces bearing on the pencil while sharpening. These forces arise from the various materials in the pencil casing and the lead, as today’s pencils can be made from an extremely wide variety of woods, plastics, and cosmetic formulas.

The dynamic action of the KUM® blade is due in part to it’s shape — a slight positive curve. If a straight blade were to be mounted onto the sharpener body it would bend to a slight negative curve under the sharpening forces and would not allow the best cut. The blade is protected against rust by careful polishing, eco-friendly ultrasonic cleaning, and by a micro-thin oil coating. It is long-lasting and very sharp. Spare blades are available.
