John Steinbeck started his day by sharpening 24 Blackwing pencils and placing them in a pencil cup. As he wrote and the pencils dulled, he would place them in a second cup. Once each pencil had been used, he would start the ritual over again.
The Steinbeck Pencil Cup was created with this ritual in mind.
